The topic we picked was Media conglomerates in the media landscape. This basically means how the control of 6 companies over 50 other companies affects our media landscape, and in turn our society, culture, and world view.
One would think having researched this for weeks would mean I've obtained a broader perspective and now appreciate the benefits of a conglomerate controlling what I view and attempting to control my opinions....
One should probably get yourself examined for a concussion if you think that.
Sure, conglomerates are an efficient way to control multiple companies, but no one should have this much power. We've basically allowed 6 rich guys to control the entirety of our media. They say what gets put on TV, what songs go on the radio, what our news outlets can report, and what we basically see on a day to day basis. Now you'd think with this kind of power, you would give the public content that was entertaining yet intelligent, unbiased news pertaining to major events- occurring locally, around the country, and abroad- and informing those who may need help the way.
What we get is songs about the butt and shaking it, TV shows either containing the substance of a wet cardboard box or designed to make people think a certain way, news that for the most part contains either major bias or isn't even news at all, and ads that are designed to convince you to spend your hard earned money on drugs you don't need, or food that'll make you sick. Now i'm not a conspiracy nut, and I don't want any of this to sound like that is the case, but the power these conglomerates have is being misused, and its basically destroying our country, or at the very least making us look and behave like idiots.
